The Lord called us into ministry over 20 years ago. This was a time in our lives when we truly depended on the
Lord for daily direction. We struggled to pay bills and had little money left over for food. Each day we prayed
for God's protection and guidance.
James was associate pastor of our Church and we often spent long hours counseling with others. It was through
this avenue that the Lord ministered to us. Most people have the availability of their pastoral staff, but we
were the staff. Who were we to go to? We continued to trust the Lord to provide. There was not a day that
we went without food, but many days we only had the one meal for our children and most times nothing left
over for ourselves. The children received free lunch at school so we knew they would have at least two meals a
day, Monday through Friday and Saturday.... Oh well the Lord always provided.
God was so faithful to us and used our alcohol and drug past for His plan to reach others. James was offered a
job with the Orange County Rescue Mission. When he got there he thought, "Lord why am I here? This isn't
me." However, James followed through and when he entered the Chapel area he felt the presence of the Lord
and knew he was where he was suppose to be.
Shortly after James was hired, Grace started volunteering at the Rescue Mission. It was the many years of
scarcity of food and having to buy food that was about to go bad, that Grace learned to make a meal out of little
or nothing. Grace was hired on at the Rescue Mission as the Food Services Supervisor in July of 1997. Grace
was later offered the position of Program Director of the Orange County Rescue Mission's Women's Recovery
Program. However, the Lord kept tugging at our hearts and we felt the call to do more.
In April 2001, the Lord introduced Grace to an attorney who specialized in non-profits. This brother in the
Lord donated his services and for the cost of filing fees Grace Immanuel Ministries became a 501(c)(3) religious
non-profit organization. Immediately after incorporation we started Christian 12-Step Meetings, prepared hot
meals for the homeless, provided pastoral counseling, and began going into the prisons ministering the Message
of Hope to the inmates.
The Lord has blessed both of us with a Masters Degree in Theology. Praise the Lord!! Grace continues her
studies to become a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. This licensing will round out the services we provide
to those in need.
Thank you for your prayers and continued support.
